I feel conflicted on the whole “life’s a journey” motto. I’m personally driven by destination – enduring pain and hating the process because I LOVE the result, especially when it’s something that seems impossible. That being said, my life IS a journey – one big crazy action-packed whirlwind adventure tour, and I’m satisfied with never being satisfied. I appreciate the journey, but only because of the destinations over the next hill and every hill to come until I die. My life is a map that welcomes pushpins, a check-list that keeps growing exponentially.
If you ask me who I am, what I do, or what makes me tick, I might stumble on which pieces of information to share. What will you appreciate most? That I’m a mom? A writer? A feminist, socialist, labour activist and a linguist? Or maybe we can bond over our love of art, design, and new media. I love food, any food, the fancier and stranger the better. I drink sporatically; I devour novels; I like vampires and love rugby; I can tell you anything you want to know about HIV and women’s sexual health.
But today (and into the foreseeable future) I have decided to focus on the Law. Why do I want to be a lawyer? Why am I plunging my family BACK into debt and poverty? I have different answers every day, but as usual, it’s the destination that drives me. One day, when asked what I do, I will be able to say “I’m a lawyer”.
My intention for this blog is to chronicle my journey through law school, as a mom with intellectual and artistic A.D.D. … hope you enjoy!
